Luren-Norsemen Spring Concert
The 25th annual joint concert of the Luren Singing Society and the
Luther Norsemen is always one of the musical highlights of the year in
northeast Iowa. This year’s exciting event will take place on Sunday, May 4
at 7:00 p.m. at Decorah Lutheran Church, 309 Winnebago Street,
Decorah, Iowa.
Luren Singers, celebrating their 140th consecutive year, is the oldest
Norwegian-American male chorus in continuous existence in
the United States, with more than 70 singers. Luren is directed by Dr.
David Judisch. The Norsemen, Luther’s first-year men’s choir with 80
members, is directed by Dr. Timothy Peter. Both directors are
distinguished members of the music faculty at Luther College.
After performing separately, the combined choruses will blend their
voices to sing several pieces together. There is no admission charge,
but a freewill offering will be taken and proceeds given to the Decorah Free
Medical Clinic located at First Lutheran Church, and to the food pantries
maintained at First Lutheran and at Decorah Lutheran churches.
Everyone is invited to the social hall after the concert, for refreshments
served by the Luren Auxiliary. You should not miss this multi-generational
event involving these two outstanding choirs on May 4, at 7:00 p.m.!
