Pastor: Rev. Gene Hermeier has deep roots in Northeast Iowa. He was born and raised in rural Waukon, Iowa and attended country school quite similar to the Locust School next door to St. John's Lutheran Church where he also serves as Pastor. Our Pastor Gene is widely traveled, knowledgeable and filled with interesting and enlightening stories and experiences which wonderfully color his sermons and messages.
After graduating from Luther College in 1953, and the University of Northern Iowa in 1956, Pastor Gene taught World and American History at Grinnell, Iowa; he also played semi-pro football in Waterloo, worked at Rath and Dubuque Packing plants, and graduated from Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque in 1961.
He has led very large churches, most recently in Fridley, MN, from which he retired in 1992. He is a respected, activist minister who most notably has lived God's Word at Matthew 25:35-36 in prison ministry for more than two decades.
We are blessed to have Rev. Hermeier as our Pastor.

Nursing Homes: Pastor Gene regularly visits the area nursing homes, and conducts worship services at Aase Haugen Homes and at Wellington Place on every first Sunday and second Wednesday with assistance from members of both Hauge and St. John's Lutheran. There is great need for young people to come alongside and assist in this important ministry.
Prison Ministry: Pastor Gene leads regular retreats to train teams to enter prisons to minister to inmates. The most recent visit of ministry teams was to the state prison in Newton, Iowa. When the next training retreat is scheduled, notice will be placed on our Newsletter page. Please let Pastor Gene know of your interest.
Men's Ministry: Hauge's men's group meets for Saturday breakfast every month for study, prayer, and fellowship.
Women's Ministry: Hauge women meet regularly in homes for prayer, study, and fellowship, and often to plan and provide leadership for special events.
Transportation: Drivers who are willing to provide rides to church for the elderly, injured, or otherwise unable to drive, and for college students without cars, can leave contact information at the church or at the link below. Likewise, if you need a ride, please call us, or send a message via the following HLC link.
